Sechs Versuche im Schwimmbad zu sein (2026)
Art imitates life until life can no longer keep up. After years of living in a role, performance artist Nico Sauer goes to the swimming pool to simply be himself for once – just an ordinary person.
Six times, he steps onto the slippery path of self-discovery under observation, wearing nothing but his swim trunks, and fails – entertainingly, cautionarily, and as a role model for those who no longer know who they are either.

The performance is part of the MommyShark series. MommyShark is a performance series for this never-ending season of heat: entertaining, inescapable, and unsettling. Time bandits, an uncanny entertainer, and unruly bodies mingle with beachgoers, drawing them into in-between realities—where the earworm is already baring its teeth, but hasn’t yet begun to bite.

About the curator
Maria Buzhor is a dramaturg and performer. As a member of the music theatre collective Hauen und Stechen, she develops cross-genre performances that reinterpret the classical opera repertoire from a political and contemporary perspective. Together with director Julia Lwowski, she founded the Trisolde ensemble, which is dedicated to radically inclusive music theatre. She also works as a librettist, translator and curator, developing formats at the intersection of opera, performance and social participation.
About the artist
Nico Sauer composes, directs, and performs experimental music theater in a delirium of disciplinary boundary-crossing, reveling in the frictions and absurdities between genres, forms, and expectations. His recent works include Atlantide Acide (2023), a solo opera that uses a microphone probe to explore the sonic depths of the human body; RÜBER (2024, Münchener Biennale), a traffic opera set in the streets of the city, with the audience seated in a moving car; and the upcoming music theater piece Die Kantine (2026, Nationaltheater Darmstadt and Münster), which transforms the opera space into a hybrid, behind-the-scenes environment where the highly artificial and the everyday drama of opera and its operations merge.
