Für die neue Sommersaison blickt Broken Dimanche Press von einem Hochsitz am Beckenrand auf die Welt und lädt sie ein ins Sommerbad für Nachmittage mit Poesie und Literatur, die lokale literarische Perspektiven und Machenschaften untersuchen.

Die erste Lesung präsentiert internationale Schriftsteller_innen und Künstler_innen, die auf Englisch, Deutsch und Türkisch lesen. Außerdem treten Piraten, Trolle und Kobolde auf. Nein, genug der Stereotype. Es gibt natürlich große Literatur und Kunst. Darin geht es um Misskommunikationen, das beim Übersetzen Verlorene oder Gewonnene, und was wir beim Reisen durch Raum und Zeit lernen. Rob Doyle ist ein irischer Schriftsteller und Herausgeber der Anthologie The Other Irish Tradition. Seine Romane, Essays und Kritiken erschienen u.a. bei The Guardian oder Vice. Kolbeinn Hugi (*1979, Berlin) ist der führende inselbewohnende Künstler einer Generation, die infolge der kataklystischen Kluft zwischen Kunst und Künstler_innen im trostlosen neokapitalistischen Reykjavík der Neuzeit entstand. Eugene Ostashevsky (*1968, Berlin) ist Autor der Lyriksammlungen ITERATURE und The Life and Opinions of DJ Spinoza und Experte russischer Avantgarde sowie zeitgenössische Poesie. Elif Saydam (*1985, Berlin)  ist eine türkisch-kanadische Künstlerin, Schriftstellerin und Performerin.

For the new summer season Broken Dimanche Press is looking out at the world from their perch at the poolside. They’re going to explore local literary perspectives and machinations by inviting the world to the Sommerbad for afternoons of poolside poetry and literature.

The first reading features a host of international writers and artists readings in English, German and Turkish and, what’s more, pirates, trolls, leprechauns. Only joking, that’d be peddling stereotypes. What there will be is great literature and art and joyful explorations of what is lost and gained in translation, miscommunications and what we learn when travelling from one place to another, across time and space. Rob Doyle is an Irish novelist and editor of the anthologyThe Other Irish Tradition. His fiction, essays, and criticism have appeared inThe Guardian, Vice, and elsewhere. Kolbeinn Hugi (*1979, Berlin) is the leading island dwelling artist of a generation that emerged in the wake of the cataclysmic rift between art and artists in the bleak neocapitalist Reykjavík of modern times. Eugene Ostashevsky (*1968, Berlin) is the author of the poetry collections ITERATURE and The Life and Opinions of DJ Spinoza, and expert of Russian avant-garde and contemporary poetry. Elif Saydam (*1985, Berlin) is a Turkish-Canadian artist, writer and performer.

mit STILL Magazine, Edit - Papier für neue Texte, Artichoke reading series und Lesungen von Daniela Seel, Charlotte Warsen, Maren Kames

Für die zweite Ausgabe lädt BDP Literaturzeitschriften und Lesereihen ein, um gemeinsam die Institution der Druckschriften und Gedichtrezitationen zu feiern. Die Lesungen stellen von ihnen veröffentlichte Autorinnen vor. Daniela Seel (*1974, Berlin) ist Dichterin und Herausgeberin von Kookbooks. Sie veröffentlichte u.a. die Gedichtbände ich kann diese stelle nicht wiederfinden und was weißt du schon von prärie. Die Künstlerin und Autorin Charlotte Warsen (*1984, Berlin) veröffentlichte diverse Texte in Anthologien und Zeitschriften. 2014 erschien ihr Erstlingswerk vom speerwurf zu pferde. Die Übersetzerin und Autorin Maren Kames (*1984, Berlin) wurde für ihren ersten Lyrikband HALB TAUBE HALB PFAU mit diversen Preis ausgezeichnet.

For this episode Broken Dimanche Press teamed up with some of the astonishing talents of literary magazines and reading series to celebrate these institutions of printed matter and poetry recitations. Each magazine presents readings by writers that have been included in them. Daniela Seel (*1974, Berlin) is a poet and publisher of kookbooks. She wrote two volumes of poetry, ich kann diese stelle nicht wiederfinden and was weißt du schon von prärie. Artist and writer Charlotte Warsen  (*1984, Berlin) published texts in anthologies und magazines. In 2014, her debut book vom speerwurf zu pferde was released. Writer and translator Maren Kames (*1984, Berlin) received several awards for her debut book HALB TAUBE HALB PFAU.

Die letzte Ausgabe stellt Autor_innen aus Zypern, Irland und den USA vor, die einen Nachmittag voller Lesungen und Performances am Beckenrand ausrichten. Die Autorin und Kuratorin Coco Fittermann (*1998, New York) hat ihre Texte u.a. bei American Medium und am MoMA PS1 präsentiert. Rindon Johnson (*1990, New York) ist Künstler und Autor von Nobody Sleeps Better Than White People, Meet in the Corner und Shade the King. Seine Texte und Skulpturen wurden etwa vorgestellt in Artforum, The New Museum und Rhizome. Christodoulos Makris (*1971, London) ist Dichter, Verleger und Kurator. Abgesehen von seinen Büchern Spitting Out the Mother Tongue und The Architecture of Chance, dem Gedichtband Round the Clock, hat er die Gedicht-Postkarten-Serie Browsing History veröffentlicht.

The last edition of the reading series brings writers from Cyprus, Ireland, and the USA to TROPEZ for another lovely afternoon of reading and performance by the poolside. Writer and curator Coco Fitterman (*1998; New York) has performed her work at American Medium, MoMA PS1, Dixon Place, and elsewhere. Rindon Johnson (*1990, Berlin) is an artist and the author of Nobody Sleeps Better Than White People, Meet in the Corner and most recently, Shade the King. Johnson’s writing and sculptures have been presented by Artforum, The New Museum and Rhizome - among others. Christodoulos Makris (*1971, London) is a poet, editor and curator. He published Spitting Out the Mother Tongue, The Architecture of Chance, the chapbook Round the Clock, and the poetry postcard set Browsing History. 

Als europäischer Verlag fühlt sich Broken Dimanche Press der Erweiterung der Literatur und Kunst sowie des Buchs verpflichtet. Seit der Gründung 2009 agiert BDP über nationale Grenzen und Sprachregionen hinweg. Die Plattform besteht aus dem Galerie-Projektraum Büro BDP und einem Verlag, der über 70 Titel veröffentlicht, sowie zahlreiche Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen organisiert hat. BDP hat seinen Sitz in Berlin.
