Kris Lemsalu
Evian Desert, 2012
ceramic,65x55x40cm
With her sculptures, installations, and performances, Kris Lemsalu creates strange worlds and absurd situations. The same goes for Evian Desert. The bathing robe made of ceramics is sitting upright in the sand as if it was worn, but at the same time it is flat, alluring to the absence of a body. In the tradition of feminist performance and staged photography, Lemsalu combines different elements such as human and animal body parts made of ceramics with fur, fabric, and clothes. Her creations are populated by chimera referencing rituals from various cultures.
