Raphaela Vogel
Asso, 2016
oil, silicone on elk leather, polyurethane-elastomer, plastic mesh, LED band, paper
198 x 119 x 41 cm
Raphaela Vogel’s sculpture Asso confronts the reduced aesthetics of Vorisek’s work. The fiercely painted elk leather in orange and pink is interconnected at the bottom by a mixture of silicone and LED tape which recalls the shape of a bone. An unraveled shower sponge dangles from it. This material and associative combination of technology and nature as well as the multilayered assemblages are typical of the artist’s work. Vogel stubbornly combines performance, film and sculpture, and repeatedly uses a drone as an imaging medium for films in which she plays the lead role. Nevertheless her works are never technoid but always include provocative, filigree, archaic, erotic and amusing elements. The title Asso is based on an Italian comedy with Adriano Celentano of which the artist was a fan when she was a teenager.
