Concrete, metal
140 x 42 x 30 cm
On the lawn stands a concrete sculpture on a slender metal pedestal. Depending on which side the audience looks at, they see one person, another person, both together, or the space between them. Krause developed Scáth (Irish for shadow, spirit, or also protection) from the 3D scan of a fleeting touch: she translates the intimate moment into graspable information and preserves it for the present.
About the artist
Anna-Lena Krause (she/her), born in 1994, lives and works in London (GB). Her sculptures, performances, and video works deal with corporeality, relationships, and perception. In doing so, Krause combines sculptural approaches with digital processes such as 3D scanning. Her works were recently shown at Saatchi Gallery (London, GB) and TEMPESTA Gallery (Milan, IT).
Anna-Lena Krause refers to Maria Loboda’s sculpture The Sacred Rock of Tropez (2023), in which a block of marble bears the trace of a mythical creature — but she turns the gaze away from the mythical and toward real life and the precious moment of an encounter.
