Ever heard of the 🦋 butterfly effect 🦋 

 

For the final episode of Unguarded's Out of Office series in this year's SWARM programme at TROPEZ, we'll explore the power of the wind. Picture a bell ringing in the Himalaya, the hum of Berlin's streets, and the intricate soundscapes of Burma. Invisibly transcending borders, shaping soundscapes, and connecting the local with the global. On September 1st, we invite you to experience the unseen. Was it the wind that stirred the leaves, or did you catch a distant chant recorded in Kathmandu? Perhaps both were touched by the same breeze, their fates intertwined in ways we'll never truly know. But in this moment, we ask you to imagine.

Unguarded are continuing their concert series at the Sommerbad this summer. In two events, the invited musicians will place the importance of collective listening at the centre of their contributions.

 

"We are preparing a little something for our favorite art space in Berlin: For this year’s programme SWARM at TROPEZ in Sommerbad Humboldthain we want to gather Out of Office to listen. The urge to truly listen has ever been present and really needs to be cultivated even more. Listening makes knowledge prosper, prosperity in knowledge makes information flourish, giving the sonic power in truth. Join us Out of Office."

About the curators

Unguarded, founded in 2020 by Philipp Hülsenbeck, Tim Roth, and later joined by Dounia Biedermann, gathers a collection of genre-defying works by longtime collaborators as well as artists they bonded with in recent years. Their releases constantly escape from definition but through entangling their unique artistic marks, this diversity remains absorbing and compelling throughout their sprawling sonic miasmas. Combining earth-shattering club cuts, equally elegant and bouncy, Unguarded contributes to and connects the experimental music scene in and outside of Berlin. We invite the curious to a deep, tense but rewarding experience.

 

About the artists 

 

Lynn Nandar Htoo (she|her) lives and works in Yangon (MMR). Htoo, an eminent Southeast Asian sound artist, adeptly synthesizes the traditional musical narratives of her homeland Myanmar with contemporary electronic beats, creating intricate sonic tapestries. Her soundscapes transcend conventional music forms, evolving into complex music narratives that blends her Burmese cultural heritage with modern electronic music. 

 

Nischal Khadka (he|him), born in 1994, lives and works in Berlin (DE). He is a sound artist, curator, cultural organizer and DJ from eastern Nepal. He founded Trans Himalaya Foundation with the aim of making new art accessible to the public in the Himalayan regions. He was also involved in promoting alternative and electronic music in Nepal as a part of Weird Collective.  

 

ronja (she|her) lives and works in Berlin (DE). She is a multi instrumentalist and songwriter. Apart from her solo project which had its latest release on Unguarded with the EP For Annette, ronja is part of the dream gaze band Roomer. She has collaborated and performed with many progressive musicians and artists such as Ludwig Wandinger, Magro, Luka Aron, J. Mahon (Emerson Snowe), P. A. Hülsenbeck and many more.
