On the sun terrace behind the pool, the pool visitors can play with the installation Recursion. As with any ladder game, they experience ups and downs, progress or fall back. Joey Holder has chosen the ancient symbol of Ouroboros as her motif - a snake that devours its own tail. The creatures on the game board were created by artificial intelligence: AI platforms such as ChatGPT or DALL-E create new content based on data available on the internet. Assuming that AI produces 90% of the content on the World Wide Web by 2025, Holder speculates that, under the current conditions, AI will increasingly have to rely on its own products - and thus also on its own hallucinations. If the WWW collapses as a source of information for us in the future because the sources can no longer be traced, something completely different could emerge. We also encounter recursive processes in linguistics: new sentences, stories and thoughts emerge from a finite set of elements and rules. Recursion in language allows for creativity and complexity.
The swimming pool guests are invited to organise themselves into play groups to use the artwork. For a minimum of two and a maximum of six players. The rules of the game are written on the bench, which also contains the game pieces.
