In the flowerbed in front of TROPEZ, the visitors encounter Lucía Pizzani's Familia de Sábila. Aloe vera plants grow from sculptures reminiscent of heads of ancient statues. The artist brings the healing plants, a reminder of her homeland Venezuela, to the Berlin swimming pool, where they soothe sunburns and wasp stings. They can be used carefully in coordination with TROPEZ – it's important not to harm the plant.
In ancient Egypt, Aloe Vera was revered as the "plant of immortality": it can reproduce asexually, and Familia de Sábila also produces new offspring – the pool audience experiences first hand over the summer how intelligently nature regenerates itself. The installation is complemented by a (polyphonic) sound piece about how the properties of aloe vera have led to its spread to all continents. Press the button in the little bird house to play the sound!
