On the flags in front of the TROPEZ, the portrait of the artist Shamiran Istifan looks out at the bathers, with the quote Wir sind euer böses Gewissen (we are your bad conscience) printed above it. The artwork Flugblatt Nummer commemorates the White Rose resistance movement. Led by the Scholl siblings, among others, it called for resistance against National Socialism. Istifan's flags call on the public to confront uncomfortable realities and draw a line to the present.

About the Artist

Shamiran Istifan (she|her), born 1987 in Baden (CH), lives and works in Zurich (CH). In her artistic practice, she uses sculpture, spatial and video installations to explore multi-layered social dynamics. In doing so, she uncovers how class, gender and religion influence collectivism, politics and personal relationships. Most recently, her work has been shown at Rose Easton (London, GB), Allstars (Lausanne, CH) and Material (Zurich, CH).
