Soft Load (2026)
In her performance Soft Load, Thuy Tien Nguyen activates her installation for PRÉSENT: together with visitors of the swimming pool, she prepares cơm nắm – compact rice balls that are traditionally used in Vietnam as a practical source of nourishment for travel and physical labour. The collective preparation and subsequent sharing of the food create a moment of exchange and community. Everyday practices of cooking and eating thus become an opportunity to share memories, experiences and cultural knowledge.
About the artist
Thuy Tien Nguyen (she/her), born in 1993, lives and works in Hanoi (VIET) and Frankfurt am Main (DE). Nguyen explores how personal and collective memories change, become distorted and are reassembled. Her works navigate the space between individual experiences and broader historical narratives. Most recently, Nguyen has exhibited at documenta 15 (Kassel, DE), Nova Contemporary (Bangkok, TH) and the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Frankfurt am Main, DE). In 2025, she received the Dogma Collection Prize and the Young Generation Art Award from Degussa in collaboration with monopol.
