(dis)Unity in (in)Difference
Diskussion mit Sanni Est, Petra Poelzl und Nadiye Ünsal, moderiert von Aleksandra Lakić, und Musik von Bazoga (live), A.G, Dovecake, Larry

Das diesjährige Sommerprogramm bringt unter dem Motto (dis)Unity in (in)Difference kritische Stimmen zusammen, die die Widersprüche und politischen Implikationen nationaler Grenzen diskutieren, sowie deren Einfluss auf unseren Körper, seine Haltung und seine Bewegung. Willkommen in Europa, einem Ort, an dem Überwachung der Bürger wichtiger ist als ihre Freiheit und Solidarität!

Die Migrant_innen, die Geflüchteten, die Anderen – repräsentiert durch diejenigen, die derzeit das Meer überqueren – spiegeln persönliche und politische Ängste. Was sind die schlimmsten Szenarien, die es abzuwenden gilt? Welche Zukunftsvisionen sind in diesem Kontext erwünscht? Was steht auf dem Spiel,  wenn wir die Verhältnisse nicht ändern – angefangen mit neuen Formen des Denkens? Diese Themen diskutieren die in Berlin lebende, brasilianische Performancekünstlerin und Musikerin Sanni Est, die Kuratorin und Wissenschaftlerin Petra Poelzl sowie die Kulturanthropologin und Soziologin Nadiye Ünsal. Die Debatte moderiert die Soziologin Aleksandra Lakić.

Sanni Est nutzt ihren Körper als politische Waffe und visuelles Element, um die Debatte um strukturelle Gewalt und Diskriminierung anzuregen. Poelzl erforscht die politischen und sozialen Aufstände seit Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts, als die frühe Verheißung einer selbstbestimmten Bewegungsfreiheit in einer globalisierten, digitalisierten und 'grenzenlosen' Welt doch nur wenigen Privilegierten zuteil wird. Ünsal beschäftigt sich mit den intersektionalen Machtstrukturen des Grenzregimes der Türkei sowie von Europa und legt einen interdisziplinären Bericht geopolitischer Hegemonien vor, die die Einführung der juristischen Kategorie des Geflüchteten de/re-stabilisiert.

Die Diskussion begleitet ein Musikprogramm mit der Londoner Produzentin A.G, dem Duo BAZOGA, Dovecake sowie DJ Larry.

This year’s summer program follows the theme of (dis)Unity in (in)Difference, bringing together critical voices focussing on the paradoxes and political absurdities of national borders, and the way they are negotiated through the body, embodiment and movement. Welcome to Europe: a place where surveillance is privileged above freedom and solidarity among its own citizens. 

The migrant, the refugee, the other – represented by the one that crosses the sea – becomes the embodiment of personal, as well as political fear. What worst case scenarios are still avoidable and what futures are still imaginable, or desirable in this context? What will be lost forever if we don’t start making changes by building new forms of thought and comprehension? Examining these themes will be Berlin-based Brazilian performance artist, and musician Sanni Est, curator and researcher Petra Poelzl and cultural anthropologist and social scientist Nadiye Ünsal. The panel will be moderated by sociologist and Democracy in Europe Movement (DIEM25) activist Aleksandra Lakić.

Est uses her body as a political weapon and visual element to incite conversations around structural violence and discrimination. Poelzl investigates the contemporary political and social upheavals emerging since the beginning of the 21st century, where its early promise of free, self-determined movement in a globalized, digitized and 'borderless' world is one available only to a privileged few. Ünsal reflects on the intersectional power structures of the border regimes of Europe and Turkey, and gives an interdisciplinary account of the geopolitical hegemonies that are (de/re)stabilized through the introduction of the legal category of refugee. 

The discussion will be accompanied by a music program with London's producer A.G, the duo BAZOGA, sound collagist Dovecake and DJ Larry.

Europool schafft Raum für politische Diskussion. Die Veranstaltungen zum Mitdenken, Zuhören und Tanzen liefern den Sound für eine Reflexion über die Wirkmacht von Gemeinschaft und fordern die Zuschauer_innen auf, über den Zustand Europas zu diskutieren.

Creamcake, eine regelmäßige Musikreihe in Berlin, wurde von Daniela Seitz und Anja Weigl initiiert. Seit 2015 organisieren sie das 3hd Festival, das interdisziplinäre Projekte an der Schnittstelle von Avantgarde, Pop, Performance und bildender Kunst präsentiert und Veränderungen in der digitalen Gesellschaft abbildet. In Zusammenarbeit mit Berliner Institutionen wie Akademie der Künste, Berghain, Hebbel am Ufer, OHM und Südblock hat sich Creamcake als eine offene und queere Reihe positioniert, die visionär, experimentell, und nonkonformistisch ist.

Europool creates space for political organisation and direct action. The cutting edge program of thinking, listening, and dancing sets the tone for reflection on community empowerment, urging viewers to take part in the conversation around Europe as it exists today.

Creamcake is a regular music series in Berlin initiated by Daniela Seitz and Anja Weigl. Since 2017 they have organized 3hd Festival, combining interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of avant-garde, pop, performance, and visual arts, circling around crucial changes in the digital society. Cooperating with numerous institutions in Berlin including Akademie der Künste, Berghain, Hebbel am Ufer, OHM, and Südblock, Creamcake has positioned the project as an open and queer series, presenting visionary, nonconformist, and experimental sounds, from the outset.
