The series Contemporary Cruising Live presents artworks in the form of a video stream. In the artistic practices of the invited performers, including Kira Nova and Aaron Tichenor, the production of video performances has played a central role since long before the pandemic. Nevertheless, their works seem even more appropriate in times when encounters are only possible under specific restrictions. The protagonists represent a contemporary approach to performance art and put the traditional understanding of performance up for discussion. They have produced two new videos for TROPEZ, which will be shown for the first time on TROPEZ TV.
Lithuanian-born Kira Nova is a performer and choreographer whose practice combines theatre, dance, stand-up, butoh, perverse academic language and sculptural work. She lives and works in New York. Her art works and performances have been shown at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the MET Breuer and MoMA PS1 in New York or the de Appel in Amsterdam, among others. She has also been a guest at many festivals.
Contemporary Cruising is an archive for performance art that has been running since 2014.
