As part of the summer exhibition and programme BELIEVE, Broken Dimanche Press is delighted to return to the swimming pool with a third installment of Empathy When, a conversation and podcast series. John Holten is joined in this season with Anna Akosua.
The first conversation of the season is with author and curator Nadim Samman. In his recently published book Poetics of Encryption: Art and the Technocene, Samman explores artworks that probe the hidden dimensions of our technological landscape. Running counter to erroneous claims regarding a new culture of transparency and openness, such artworks address black sites, black boxes, and black holes—all the while, toggling between enlightened concern and occult dreaming.
This event will be moderated by John Holten and Anna Akosua.
Nadim Samman, Ph.D., is Curator for the Digital Sphere at KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
Anna Akosua (Anna Hankings-Evans) is a German-Ghanaian corporate attorney and lecturer in EU law and international economic law. Her research focuses on public international law, particularly from a postcolonial TWAIL perspective and with a special focus on the African region. In this context, she wrote her doctoral thesis on bilateral investment treaties between China and African states, subjecting them to analysis in light of global power shifts. Since 2018, she serves as an independent legal expert for the African Union.
Broken Dimanche Press is a European press interested in all aspects of books within the wider discourses of contemporary art and literature. It is committed to operating beyond and across national borders and language regions. Founded in Berlin in 2009, BDP is comprised of a gallery project space Büro BDP and a publishing house, has published over 70 titles and organised many exhibitions and events. BDP is based in Berlin.
