Between the kiosk and the swimming pool, Haseeb Ahmed’s wind sculpture interrupts the view. With its expansive arms, When the Wind Comes, the Walls Go creates a space in mid-air. In calm weather, two curved fabric panels – one red, one blue – form a sheltered space. Yet this space quite literally dissolves into air as soon as the wind rises, blowing the fabric walls aside like a theater curtain. The red and blue textiles symbolize warm and cold air currents – such currents generate differences in pressure, which in turn produce wind. The playfulness of Ahmed’s work expresses a peaceful form of resistance against the unpredictability of greater forces – here embodied by the unpredictable wind.
