The protests, the pandemic, the swimming pool timeslot cards, the summer of 2020 has made apparent how our everyday life is marked by inequalities, limits and restrictions. The swimming pool, supposedly a place of democratic pleasure and of utopian fantasy, excludes many people. And what does swimming feel like this summer as a Person of Colour? This is the question that Jessica Korp has been examining. TROPEZ invited Korp to join our team for the 2020 summer season as a researcher into the topic of racism. At the very last day of the this years pool season, she will present different perspectives, contexts and stories of the swimming pool experience, followed by a discussion with John Holten about her research in and around Sommerbad Humboldthain.
Jessica Korp is interested in the postcolonial history of migration, work in late capitalism and everyday life as a stage for social contexts. She is a student of European ethnology and an active member of Aktivistar Filmkollektiv.
