Choir concert by the open choir project and sound performance by M LORE

Probably most, if not all, personal narratives are in some way interwoven within a broader tapestry of human (and non-human) experiences and memories. August 4th is an ode to the power of the collective memory and present voice, to the profound and to the nostalgic, as well as the aspirational. From reminiscing about slow summers, big feelings, and transformations, to contributing to the canon of songs about how work sucks: we invite you to engage with a collective past to find meaning in present emotions, maybe be nostalgic, maybe not, but nevertheless imagine dreamy futures by the pool. 

On Sunday, August 4th, 2024, at 4pm, Unguarded invites you to the poolside for a concert with M Lore and the open choir as part of their concert series "OutofOffice". 

 

Unguarded are continuing their concert series at the Sommerbad this summer. In two events, the invited musicians will place the importance of collective listening at the centre of their contributions.

 

"We are preparing a little something for our favorite art space in Berlin: For this year’s programme SWARM at TROPEZ in Sommerbad Humboldthain we want to gather Out of Office to listen. The urge to truly listen has ever been present and really needs to be cultivated even more. Listening makes knowledge prosper, prosperity in knowledge makes information flourish, giving the sonic power in truth. Join us Out of Office."

 

About the curators

Unguarded, founded in 2020 by Philipp Hülsenbeck, Tim Roth, and later joined by Dounia Biedermann, gathers a collection of genre-defying works by longtime collaborators as well as artists they bonded with in recent years. Their releases constantly escape from definition but through entangling their unique artistic marks, this diversity remains absorbing and compelling throughout their sprawling sonic miasmas. Combining earth-shattering club cuts, equally elegant and bouncy, Unguarded contributes to and connects the experimental music scene in and outside of Berlin (DE). We invite the curious to a deep, tense but rewarding experience.

 

About the artists

The open choir project was first formed in 2023 to revisit those very memories of growing up. Not so much to question or examine them from the outside, it invites us to indulge in teenage angst, only without the shame that used to accompany it. 

 

M LORE (they/it) lives and works in Helsinki Finland. M LORE makes unpopular music. Icy music for people with no chill. hard-dark-sad-funny-nasty music for sexy geniuses. M’s multimedia performances have been featured in events like Transmediale (DE) and Ars Electronica (AUT). They hold an MA in Sound in New Media from Aalto University (FIN), and have been honored with residencies at Amplify Berlin (DE), Ems Stockholm (SWE), and soon the ZKM center for Art and Media (DE). M Lore’s debut EP, NEW ME, is out now on Unguarded.
