Amezaiku is a Japanese confectionery craft, which is practised by the artist Chieko Idetsuki. She creates breathtakingly realistic sculptures from multicoloured sugar paste. In the case of REALITY, they are fragile sea creatures. Although they are sugar animals on a stick, the objects of Japanese craftsmanship seem almost too precious to be consumed like lollipops. This is precisely why she does not simply present jellyfish, seahorses, dolphins and crabs online. Idetsuki presents them in a vending machine in the Sommerbad Humboldthain, surrounded by the most profane, mass-produced sweets that can be found on the market.
Chieko Idetsuki (*1974 in Tokyo) works in Berlin. Besides Amezaiku, she mainly focuses on illustration in her artistic practice.
