Eisdiele Manuel (Ice cream parlour), 2021
Interactive game - current theme: love without heart
Mexico-based artists Manuel García Díaz and Robert Janitz have experimented with the haptic qualities of ice cream in digital space: The result is the interactive game Eisdiele Manuel (2021). On the smartphone screen, you can use your finger to paint and digitally lick plates in Mexico's most popular ice cream flavors. TROPEZ prints the best pictures on real plates this summer.
About the artists
Manuel García Díaz (b. 1988, Guadalajara, MEX) is primarily concerned with gender and power issues inherent in sports. He is interested in the influence of sports practice on the constitution of contemporary identities, the place of the body in culture, the role of heroic and idealized figures, and the weight of these narratives on popular imaginaries. García Díaz's work has been shown at Salón ACME in Mexico and Poppositions 2015 in Brussels, among others.
Robert Janitz (b. 1962, Alsfeld) paints large-scale gestural abstractions with broad horizontal and vertical brushstrokes drenched in cold wax and flour. In the repetitive movement, he likes the proximity to repetitive actions of domestic work - cleaning windows, spackling or grouting - or the less strenuous spreading of buttered toast. His work has been shown recently, including at Casa Gilardi in Mexico City and the Kunstmuseum Winterthur.
